TN clarifies Maharashtra over travel advisory

SwineThe state government has condemned the Tamil Nadu (TN) government stand of advising people not to travel to Maharashtra.

Criticizing the TN government stand, Maharashtra State Public Health Minister Dr Rajendra Shingne said: "I do not agree to such directives and would say that there is no need to issue such directives. Our government will talk to the TN government on this issue."

Shingne added that Maharashtra was completely safe and sound for travel.

The minister also reviewed measures taken by the Pune health department to contain the H1N1 infection.

He said additional pre-screening centers have been opened for screening of suspected cases.

It may be recalled here that on August 3, a 14 year old schoolgirl died of swine flu in the state second largest city, Pune.

Meanwhile, TN government has clarified its stand and said that it had given a general alert on Thursday to the public to travel to Maharashtra only on exigency and avoid any leisure travel for the time being.

Speaking on this, Health Secretary V. K. Subburaj said: "There is no ban on travel to Maharashtra. We got reports that the situation in districts likes Pune and Satara is a bit acute and hence suggested that people restrict travel till normalcy returns there."
