Torrential rains force Rajasthan Govt. to seek Army's helpTorrential rains in some parts of Rajasthan, such as Jaipur and Sikar, forced the state government to seek the Army's help on Friday.

Army personnel under the South Western Command rushed to Madrempura basti in Jaipur and Laxmangarh in Sikar to flush out the rain water.

Floods uprooted hundreds of electricity poles and damaged dozens of houses in several areas, such as Nawalgarh. The heavy rains have affected more than 7,000 people, who were shifted to relief camps.

Defence spokesperson S. D. Goswami has assured that additional flood relief columns of the Army would be deployed in the rain-hit areas as and when required.

Speaking on the topic, Goswami added, "The flood relief columns comprise professionally-trained troops in execution of all types of conceivable rescue and relief tasks along with the requisite equipment, medical team and other support elements of the Army."

In rain-related accidents, the death toll has already soared to 33 in 12 districts of the state, with drowning incidents alone accounting for 23. Building collapse and electrocution accounted for seven and two deaths respectively. So far, Jaipur alone has reported 10 deaths.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has raised the relief amount for the families of the victims from 1.5 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh, and also sanctioned Rs. 2.64 crore for relief operations.
