Train collision in India leaves 50 passengers dead According to the reports, one passenger train smashed into the rear of another in India early Monday, and one official said the death toll could surpass 50.

15 bodies had been recovered but that an unnamed senior official confided that at least 50 people could have died, The Press Trust of India reported hospital sources as saying. PTI further said that Eastern Railway sources in Kolkata confirmed the driver of the Uttarbanga Express was among the dead.

The Uttarbanga Express, bound for Sealdah from New Coochbehar, hit the rear of the Bhagalpur-Ranchi Vananchal Express at Sainthia station in Birbhum district shortly before 2 a. m. local time, PTI added.
