Twitter aims for ‘no spam’

TwitterWith an aim to evade the maximum amount of spam tweets, Twitter claims to have slashed the amount of spam tweets to 1 per cent.

It was estimated that in August, which saw the pinnacle of spam messages at 11 per cent, forced the company to take steps to being it down to current level.

Abdur Chowdhury, the Company's Chief Scientist, in a post on the Twitter blog complimented the engineers stating, "With help from engineers on our research team, we have moved the percentage of spam flowing through the Twitter network way down - and counting".

With this advent, Twitter has devised methods such as educating users, introduction of Twit. tl link shortening service which scrutinizes the phishing activities induced by the harmful sites.

It came into light when attempts of stealing passwords were reported.

Spam messages are a big problem for the Internet websites and most importantly the social networking ones. This step taken by Twitter will surely help other players too.
