In a shocking development, a woman and her mother were arrested in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday for alleged infanticide.

According to reports, Revathy (21), wife of an autodriver in Thoothukudi region, gave birth to a set of twins on September 24 at the govt hospital in Govarangiri village.

Since the twins were born premature, physicians kept them in an incubator.

On the next day, Revathy along with her mother Thenila took the babies for breast-feeding. But, both of them were shocked over the birth of girl children.

In the meantime, Revathi allegedly killed a baby by slitting her throat with the help of a razor, whereas Thenila strangled the other one.

When the hospital staff checked the infants, they found traces of blood on one of the babies and called police.

Revathi and Thenila later reportedly confessed to having killed the babies.
