Tylenol Announces Recall of Arthritis Pain Caplets

Tylenol Announces Recall of Arthritis Pain CapletsThe voluntary recall of Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplets, a product for the treatment of arthritis pain, is currently being expanded by the McNeil Consumer Healthcare and the U. S. Food & Drug Administration.

All the lots of the over-the-counter drug, which is sold in 100-count bottles, are being recalled by the company after various customers have complained that the medicine smells "musty".

5 lots of the medicine were first recalled in November 2009 because of "moldy, musty or mildew-like odors" which were reported by customers, and users associated them with nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

A joint statement issued by the FDA and McNeil states that the odor is mainly caused by a chemical that is used to treat the wooden pallets on which the medicine is stored before it is transported. As per McNeil, the symptoms experienced by customers were non-serious and short lived.

Customers who have purchased the "Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 county bottles with easy-open red caps" are now being urged to contact McNeil for a full refund or replacement on (888) 222-6036. Alternatively, customers can also visit tylenol. com. Specific lot numbers are listed at fda. gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm195690. htm.
