Lahore, Sept 16 : UK Secretary for Justice Jack Straw has reportedly told Pakistan that his country doesn’t support the recent US’ unilateral strikes inside Pakistan’s territory from across Afghan border.

In a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore, Straw reiterated the UK’s commitment to stop cross-border movement of terrorists and attacks by US led forces in Pakistan, reported the Daily Times.

Straw’s statement was in contrast with an earlier statement by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown backing US incursions into Pakistan.

After the meeting between the UK official and Punjab Chief Minister, the provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Straw had also pledged his country’s support to Pakistan to improve law and order situation.

Straw told Sharif that Pakistan’s security was vital for Britain.

The United States’ unilateral strikes on Pakistan have increased over the past few weeks. Sources in the US administration say that these strikes were a result of Pakistan Army’s inability and unwillingness to fight terrorists over the past seven years when Washington depended on Pakistan’s security forces for eliminating the extremists.
