UK Prime Minister hopes to save Teesside steel plantGordon Brown, the UK Prime Minister is very much hopeful that he can save the Corus steelworks on Teesside and the jobs of 1,600 employees. Mr. Brown is anticipating so just because the Government is talking to a number of companies, who have shown their interest in the plant.

Mr. Brown has not given up the hope for revival of the steel plant. Gordon Brown said that he had spoken to the Indian parent company Tata Steel and Kirby Adams who is head of the Corus European operations regarding the matter. And he also added that apart from TATA Steel he is also trying to find some new owners for the site so that it can be saved.

According to sources, veteran venture capitalist Jon Moulton is also being in touch with one group. But his interest in this particular project has not been awarded of.

Business Secretary Mr. Lord Mandelson has fuelled the speculation that the Government is now encouraging the potential bidders. Just hours before Corus had started the partial mothballing operation Mandelson visited the huge plant and also announced a package of £3.8m aid. This aid is basically for Corus apprentices and the businesses in the Tees Valley.
