Unauthorised telemarketing increased over last one year: Deora The nuisance of unauthorised telemarketing by un-registered telemarketers is on the rise, Minister of State for Communications & IT Milind Deora admitted.

In a written reply to parliament, Deora said that unauthorised telemarketing increased over last one-year period and that service providers received on an average 46,402 complaints about pesky calls and messages every month.

Deora told the Lok Sabha, "It is observed that complaints related to unauthorised telemarketing activity from un-registered telemarketers (who are not registered with TRAI), has increased during last one year."

In total, service providers received 556,834 complaints about pesky calls and messages between August 5, 2012 and August 4, 2013.

For fixing unsolicited commercial communications, regulator TRAI introduced Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations on September 27, 2011.

Deora also noted that all subscribers involved in making unsolicited calls or sending unsolicited SMSs would be blacklisted and no telecom resources should be provided to such blacklisted subscribers by any access provider for a period of two years.

The Minister also revealed that telecom services providers owe the government more than Rs 39,800 crore in terms of outstanding amount for licence fees, spectrum usage charges, interest and penalties.
