An Unknown Caller Threatens Mamata Banerjee With Dire ConsequencesIn a time of increasing tension between the CPM and the Trinamool over the Singur issue, Mamata Banerjee allegedly received a threat call on Monday, October 13.

A leader of the Trinamool medical cell, Majhi, received the call around 1.45 pm on Monday when a number of Trinamool leaders were gathered at the office-cum-residence of Banerjee. According to Majhi, the unidentified caller cursed Mamata Banerjee and threatened her with dire consequences. Another such call was received on the same number at 2.10 pm.

At the time of this happening Mamata Banerjee was away in Delhi to meet the President and the Prime Minister over the Singur issue. She sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil for functionalizing the mutual decision arrived at between the State Government and her associates to return the land acquired at Singur for the Tata Motors Nano project to farmers who had not accepted remuneration for their plots.

“The caller ID attached to the phone in Banerjee’s office showed that the call originated from a local booth,” said a police officer.
“We have initiated a probe into the matter,” said Rajesh Suborno, Deputy Commissioner (South).
