Unknown Disease Claiming 13 Lives In Western Nepal Found To Be Viral Fever
An unidentified disease has killed 13 people, including four kids, in Gumla Village Development Committee of Gorkha district in western Nepal over the past two weeks.
The residents of the village said that the disease claimed lives of 3 members of a single family including Dambar Maila, his wife Rati Gurung and their son Saila Gurung on Wednesday alone.
Others included in the death list were Kisman Gurung, Samali Gurung, Saila Gurung, Kanchha Gurung, Kisanman Gurung, Tikan Gurung, Karina Gurung, Manoj Gurung, Sharmila Gurung and Tul Bahadur Gurung.
According to fresh reports, the medical team, which was sent to Gumla Village on Thursday, has diagnosed the unknown disease as viral fever.
The main symptoms of the disease include pain in the head, fever and cough plus pain in the stomach and itching in the body.
According to a report, the expert panel including Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel and District Public Health Chief Dr. Gunaraj Lohani treated about 70 patients suffering from viral fever.
The report also said that seven patients out of 70 are serious in the village, some 75 km west of Kathmandu.
The medical group has been instructed to stay in the village till the disease is controlled.
