US dollar to touch five year high against Japanese Yen

US dollar to touch five year high against Japanese YenThe US national currency is trading near a five year high against the Japanese Yen on the 31 December of 2013, which is about 21 per cent higher than the previous year.

The US Dollar is trading at ¥104.97 today and is on track to record its best year against the peer since the year 1979. The US dollar had touched a high of 105.40 against the Japanese currency. The economy also fell against other currencies as U. S Treasury yields fell in the markets.

The Euro fell to $1.3792 on Tuesday against the US dollar ahead of the European central bank's asset-quality review. The euro was trading at around $1.3818 on Monday. The Chinese Yuan touched a new high of 6.05 against the U. S. dollar after it rose 2.8 per cent during the year.

Among the Asian currencies, most lost values against the US dollar. The Indonesia rupiah fell 21 per cent, the Indian rupee has fallen 12 per cent, the Philippines peso declined 8 per cent and the Malaysian ringgit and Thai baht are both fell around 7 per cent during the year. The South Korean won rose 0.76 per cent backed by the country's strong trade balance during the year.
