Video game entrepreneur Henk Rogers applies for Hawaii Marijuana Dispensary

Woody Harrelson, an actor and marijuana advocate, was among the roughly 60 applicants, who have applied to open the first medical marijuana dispensary in Hawaii. The 54-year-old actor has applied for a license in Honolulu County under Simple Organic Living, the company in which he works.

On Friday, the Hawaii Department of Health displayed the list of 66 applications on its website. Now, the state is reviewing applications for dispensary permits, which will be awarded by them in April.

Henk Rogers, a Video game entrepreneur, has also applied for a license under his company, Blue Planet Foundation. The foundation advocates for energy independence statewide. The 61-year-old entrepreneur Rogers is well known for the discovery of the video game Tetris over 2 decades back, and is living in an entirely solar-powered home in Hawaii.

Besides these tow, other applicants includes producer of the local television show Hawaii Stars, Dirk Fukushima, and ex University of Hawaii Regent Charles Kawakami.

In case got selected, the dispensary applicants should have $1 million cash than only can apply for licenses, must possess plus $100,000 for each dispensary location. All applicants need to have been Hawaii residents for over five years.

As per a 2015-passed law, the state will grant eight licenses for marijuana business owners throughout the islands. Under the law, medical marijuana businesses will be allowed to have two production centers and two retail dispensaries, with 16 dispensaries in total across the state. The distribution of dispensaries is Oahu is permitted to have six, Hawaii Island can have four, Maui can have four and two are on Kauai.

Dispensaries will open in July. Sixteen years back, Hawaii became the first to make medical marijuana legal through the legislative process.
