India's state owned telecom services provider BSNL has launched its very first commercial WiMAX Wireless Broadband Service which boasts up to 7 mbps speed in the rural areas across India. This 4th Generation service was launched in Rajasthan.

This new venture from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, which is also the first company to launch this service in India, is aimed towards rural empowerment and offers multiple business - oriented services like video conferencing and tele-education, and also includes other services through the local administrative body and also offers a very fast speed of about 7mbps at a surprising distance of 15 kms.

It has been reported that this services that was launched by Sachin Pilot, the Communication Minister of State from Ajmer, has the lowest monthly rental which is just Rs. 140 in the rural areas. Through the launch of this service, a new spur of growth in the wireless broadband internet service is expected to be seen in the rural areas of India and is hoped that it would spread across to the urban areas as well.
