Zardari to fly to London to achieve a political reconciliation with Altaf Hussain

Karachi, Apr 14: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali ZardariAfter the Altaf Hussain’s party the MQM decided to sit in the Opposition in the National Assembly, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is learnt to have decided to fly to London for a political reconciliation with Hussain.

Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri announced this following the MQM’s announcement that it would join the Opposition. She, however, did not mention the timeframe of the visit.

Earlier, only a couple of days after it had announced its willingness to be a part of the PPP-led coalition government, the MQM last evening decided to sit in Opposition benches because the PPP was not taking it “seriously”.

Announcing the party’s decision, MQM’s Rabita Committee deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar said that the PPP was not behaving “seriously” and did not hold talks with it over distribution of ministries.

“Today the Rabita Committee has decided that the PPP is not serious, therefore, the MQM will play its role from the Opposition benches. The MQM is a democratic political party and wants democracy to flourish in the country. After the general polls, the MQM accepted the mandate given to all political parties by the masses,” the Daily Times quoted Sattar as saying at MQM headquarters “Nine-Zero” during a press conference.

He added that the MQM had unconditionally supported the PPP at the Centre and withdrew its candidate for the premiership, and also did not announce a candidate for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the Sindh province either.

He complained that despite the fact that Zardari was received warmly at Nine-Zero in Karachi, the MQM delegation visiting Naudero was given a “light welcome”.

“At the last meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah spent just a few minutes with us during the talks and only Pir Mazharul Haq and Dr Zulfiqar Mirza out of the five-member committee remained there for further talks. It seems that talking with the PPP is just ‘time-pass’,” said Sattar.

He further alleged that the citizens of Karachi had serious reservations over Shoaib Suddle’s appointment as the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, as, he added, Suddle was involved in killings of several MQM workers. “Suddle is involved in the murder cases of hundreds of our activists. We expressed our reservation over his appointment on Saturday night, and we were told by them that ‘Shoaib is our hero’,” added Sattar. (ANI)
