Zynga might close down OMGPOP

Zynga might close down OMGPOPGaming giant, Zynga might be planning to shut down OMGPOP game studio, which is known for its popular ‘Draw Something’ mobile game.

Zynga had acquired OMGPOP gaming studio in the previous year for $180 million at a time when the Draw Something game had more than tens of millions of players. Zynga's chief mobile officer David Ko had said that the company did not acquire OMGPOP just to own "Draw Something" but it took over the company because it saw a lot of upcoming ideas from the company.

OMGPOP was established in 2006 and has a total of 40 employees. It has released Internet games such as "Puppy World" and has managed to raise millions of dollars in venture capital funding. The "Draw Something" app has been downloaded more than 35 million times since its launch. The app generates income from advertisements, selling items within the game and from a premium version that costs 99 cents.

Zynga took a $95 million write-off for OMGPOP in October and the company is now considering selling its acquisition in just a year. The company is now laying off its 520 people, or 18 per cent of its 2,902 employees.
