2012 was an eventful year for AppleThe year 2012 was quite a unique and eventful one for Apple, with the company making some pertinent adjustments to its day-to-day functioning after the October 2011 demise of its iconic co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs.

While the year witnessed Apple releasing a number of devices and continuing with its success streak, there were also a few low points for the company, especially during the last few months.

Some of the most noteworthy downfalls for Apple in 2012 included the much-reported Apple Maps fiasco; the layoff of the company's iOS chief Scott Forstall; the discontent at the launch of the iPad 4 within months of the iPad 3 launch; and the lack of updates in the iPhone 5.

However, despite these low points, Apple still emerged the most valued company ever; with the most prominent releases by the company in 2012 being the iPad 3; iPad 4; the Phone 5; the new MacBook Pro version with Retina Display; and the upgraded iMac and MacBook Air line.

In addition, the immensely popular software update - the Mac OS X 10.8 `Mountain Lion' version - was also released by Apple in 2012. The new software version unfolded an evident peek into some significant updates which apparently are in the offing; and will result in an increased similarity between Mac OS X and the iOS operating systems, particularly since some notable iOS features - including Notification Center, Game Center, Reminders, Notes, and iMessage capabilities - having already made their way to the Mac OS!
