400 sacks of ammonium nitrate seized in Jharkhand

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Jan 16 : In a major haul, police seized 400 sacks of ammonium nitrate from Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

The recovery was made from a quarter of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) during a raid by the members of the Special Task Force.

The seized sacks were from a consignment looted from a police station in December last year.

One accused, Jitender Singh, from whose quarters the recovery was made, was also arrested by the officials and taken into custody.

"A consignment of ammonium nitrate was looted from Ramgarh police station in December and around 400 bags of that consignment were recovered from Jitender''s house. The Ramgarh police had come and arrested some in this connection. On their directive only the recovery was made and the person was also arrested." said Sheetal Oraon, Superintendent of Police, Dhanbad.

Though used as a fertiliser, ammonium nitrate can also be mixed with other materials to make a powerful explosive. (ANI)
