Aloe vera good for teeth and gums

aloe veraAloe vera is known for its numerous benefits for skin and health. Its capability to heal burns and cuts and soothe pain has been known since ages. Aloe vera is widely used as a treatment for numerous ailments like diabetes.

Recent study indicated that the aloe vera in tooth gels is also beneficial for teeth. Study proved its capability to fight cavities as effectively as ordinary toothpaste. It can cleanse and soothe teeth and gums.

In the recent study researchers compared the germ fighting ability of an aloe vera tooth gel with two popular toothpastes.

Study indicated that the aloe vera tooth gel was as effective as commercial brand toothpaste in controlling cavity-causing organisms.

But in some cases aloe vera was found more effective in destroying pathogenic oral microflora (bacteria that causes disease) in the mouth.

Aloe vera tooth gel is much gentler on teeth as it does not contain the abrasive elements typically found in commercial toothpaste. Researchers believe it might be an alternative for people with sensitive teeth or gums.

Researchers cautioned that all aloe vera tooth gels may not have the right form of aloe vera in it.

Dilip George, MDS, co-author of the study, suggests that consumers consult non-profit associations such as the International Aloe Science Council to see what products have received the organization's seal of quality.
