Anand Sharma terms attack on Lankan cricket team as "horrendous"

New Delhi, Mar 3 : Condemning the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today termed it as "horrendous" and "unbelievable."

He said that India''s decision of not sending its team to Pakistan has been proved correct.

"It was not possible for India to expose its cricket team to the grave threat posed by the forces of violence in Pakistan," he added.

AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said if Pakistan has become the epicentre of terror, then every country in the world must unite against this scourge by isolating the country and demanding immediate concrete results.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the incident would force the global community to declare Pakistan as a terrorist state.

"It is not only an attack on cricket but also on the peace loving world fraternity. The incident signifies the urgency for the world community to recognise the concerns which India has always been raising," he added.

Around a dozen heavily armed assailants attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team''s bus and a police escort as they drove to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore for the ongoing second and final Test. At least six cricketers were wounded. (ANI)
