Beijing pollution may up heart risk
The doctors have expressed concerns over growing air pollution in the city of Beijing. Beijing is going to host Olympic game in this year. The polluted air will be dangerous both for sportsmen and spectators of game. Air pollutants with fine size make the blood sticky and thicker. Pollution causes irritation of lungs and secretion of substance, interleukin-6, which can cause blood clotting. If clots enter into the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism, a person may die.
The US doctors said that the breathing high in the polluted air of Beijing will increase the risks of blood clotting in legs and heart attack. It will prove more dangerous for people having already problem of heart disease and high blood pressure. People with problem of high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, a current smoking habit or a family member diagnosed with heart disease before the age of 55 are also vulnerable to the risks associated with pollution.
Dr Scott Budinger of Northwestern Memorial Hospital gives advice to people to become more health conscious. The men in age group 40 are advised to take aspirin daily to prevent blood being thicker and non sticky. Women are also advised to take the medicine regularly. People are also advised to live inside as pollution level is measured lower in indoor as compared to outdoor. It is also advised to do leg exercise in planes to prevent blood clotting and blood pooling.
