BEML thrash clueless BEL
Impressive performances by Jotin and Tiken; Jackson and Jaya Kumar score a brace each
Samuel Jackson and Jaya Kumar scored two goals each as BEML overwhelmed BEL 4-0 in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football Association stadium on Wednesday. In the 'A' division league, AGORC and DYSS drew one-all, with Suresh scoring for AGORC and Ramesh equalising for DYSS.
BEML were too skilful and too organised a side for BEL, who had just a couple of shots at the BEML goal throughout the match. The blue-jerseyed BEML boys however missed several chances, including a penalty late in the match, and BEL can count themselves lucky that they didn't go down by a higher margin.
With BEML stamping their authority early, it was a matter of time before the BEL citadel fell. Jotin Singh and Tiken Singh on the left had standout performances, and they controlled proceedings and routinely set up the play for striker Samuel Jackson. Both Jotin and Tiken livenened up the game with their pace and their tireless running, and they were well supported by the midfield and defence. The first goal came in the 15th minute, Jotin passing precisely to Samuel, who beat the offside trap and beat goalkeeper Vasudevan with a low drive.
Six minutes later it was 2-0; Tiken this time swinging a left-footed corner and Jaya Kumar rising to direct the header into the net.
As the play progressed, BEL began to flag. Their best opportunity came mid-way through the first half, when Jayavandan found himself clear with just goalkeeper Rajan to beat, but Rajan anticipated correctly and parried the shot.
Jaya Kumar increased the tally for BEML in the 56th, this time collecting the ball a few yards outside the box and letting rip. The long-ranger beat goalkeeper Vasudevan to his right post. Samuel added the final nail in the 76th minute by holding off his marker and firing from close.
Having let four past him, the hapless Vasudevan's only bright moment came when he leapt to his right to punch away Jaya Kumar's penalty shot.
