Biden for strengthening ties with Pakistan to succeed in AfghanistanMunich, Feb. 8 : US Vice-President Joe Biden has termed Pakistan as an important ally of the United States in its `war on terror', and asked for a strengthening of ties between both countries in order to stabilise the region.

Washington will have to increase its cooperation with Pakistan as no strategy for Afghanistan can succeed without Islamabad, Biden said.

Describing the turbulent condition of the tribal areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border a matter of concern, Biden said US will extend all help to counter the rising extremism in the region.

"We must help Pakistan stabilise the Tribal Areas and promote economic development and opportunity throughout the country," the Daily Times quoted Biden, as saying.

Speaking at the security conference here, he stressed on the need for clear and achievable goals for Afghanistan to root out militancy and succeed in the `war on terror'.

"The US is seeking to set "clear and achievable" goals for Afghanistan in a comprehensive strategy for which both Washington and its allies must take responsibility," Biden added.

He also urged the international community, and especially allies of the United States to come down hard on terror.

"America will do more, but America will ask for more from our partners," Biden said. (ANI)
