Filmcity Media to issue GDRs, FCCBs up to $ 10 million

Filmcity Media Ltd has the informed its board of directors at its meeting held on May 23, 2008 has constituted a committee consisting of four directors for the issue of global depository receipts (GDRs) / foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) up to $10 million.

Mumbai-based Filmcity Media Limited engages in producing and telecasting television programs in India. It produces countdown programs, daily soaps, and other entertainment programs. The company also produces health related programs.

The scrip of the company slipped 3 per cent to Rs 1.94 at the close of Friday's trading with over 1,35,000 shares changing hands on the BSE.

Percept Limited, the media and entertainment conglomerate, plans to raise Rs 1500 crore through a mix of private equity, IPO and debt.

Recently, the company has raised Rs 62 crore from Indivision India Partners, the private equity arm of Kishore Biyani's Future Capital. It had earlier received investments from Passport Capital and Edelweiss. The total amount of Rs 150 crore raised from these three entities was done at a valuation of Rs 1200 crore. Through the IPO, the company is expecting to raise around Rs 250 crore

Mahindra & Mahindra to make entry in film production and distribution business

Mahindra and Mahindra, India's leading automobile manufacturing company, is venturing into the film production and distribution business, according to sources. Though the company is yet to make the formal declaration about its media foray, but the sources revealed that the company has created Rs 200 million ($5 million) media fund, which is to be invested in movies and television.

Percept to form a joint venture with Future group

Entertainment, Media and Communications Company, Percept and Kishore Biyani's Future Group have formed a joint venture (JV) called ‘Bollywood Retail’. The newly formed Bollywood Retail will focus on providing the "Bollywood experience" and "Bollywood merchandising" within the Future Group's retail network.

Percept had earlier set up Bollywood Corporation Pvt. Ltd. to create and own IPR assets in the Bollywood domain. It aimed to provide the complete “Bollywood Experience” including Bollywood Cafes, Walk Throughs, Hall of Fame, Bollywood Museums, Bollywood Theme Park, Merchandising and a host of other experiential offerings for the visitors.

Mumbai-based production house Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) has entered into an agreement with US-based Sony Pictures for co-production of three films.

The details of the films would be released subsequently. One movie from the series, 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram' has been finalized. Rest two movies are in the last stages of being finalized between the two production houses, an official release stated.

Yesterday, Sony Pictures Intl. Motion Picture Production Group bought worldwide rights from PNC comedy "Meerabai Not Out", which is the debut film of Indian cricket star, Anil Kumble.

Dubai to get Legoland theme park - first in Gulf region

Merlin Entertainment LogoLondon  - Merlin Entertainments Group, the world's second largest operator of visitor attractions, announced plans Tuesday to build a Legoland theme park in Dubai, its first outside the US and Europe.

London-based Merlin Entertainments, which counts Legoland and Madame Tussauds among its many attractions, said it had formed a "strategic alliance" with Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holdings, to create a Legoland Park in Dubai.

The entertainment park is scheduled to open at the end of 2011, and will be part of a project to be known as Dubailand.

Adlabs Films Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Big Entertainment, has announced that the Company has entered into an agreement for acquisition of majority and controlling interest in Lotus Five Star Cinemas and will be operating a 51 screen cinema exhibition chain in Malaysia. Reliance Big Entertainment is media and entertainment arm of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).

The chain will have a footprint across the Malaysia and will be playing mainstream Hollywood films in addition to movies in the Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Chinese and Malay.

Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired the digital images business of US-based DTS Inc for an undisclosed amount.

DTS Digital Images, also known as Lowry Digital Images, is a market leader in the digital restoration and enhancement of moving pictures. It delivers stunning picture quality using groundbreaking algorithms developed by visionary founder John Lowry.

The acquisition is the first by Reliance Big Entertainment in the digital services space overseas.

Helen Mirren returns to Russian roots in Tolstoy film project

Berlin - English actress Helen Mirren, 62, is returning to her Russian roots, playing the wife of classic Russian writer Leo Tolstoy in a movie, The Last Station, now shooting in Germany.

"When I was trying on the costumes, I felt like my Russian great-aunt," quipped Dame Helen, who was born Ilyena Vasilievna Mironov.

She grew up in London and her father, son of a Russian nobleman, later changed the family name to Mirren.

Though the film is set in Russia, the German producers are doing much of the shooting at similar looking locations in Saxony Anhalt, a provincial region in eastern Germany.

Raj Television inks pact with ASTRO-DTH; stock gains 18%

Private Broadcaster Raj Television Network Ltd has informed that the company has join hands with "ASTRO-DTH" one of the biggest DTH (Direct-To-Home) player in Malaysia for telecasting RajTV Channel in Malaysia through DTH platform.

Presently, the airing is going on as test run basis as per the norms and guidelines of the regulations even though the Company is expecting to blow its channels finally in to the Malaysian Air very shortly.

Under the agreement, the channel will be beamed 24x 7 on air in general entertainment. All the programs shall be available for the viewers on Malaysian time.

UTV Software inks pact with Walt Disney’s international TV distribution arm; to launch business channel ‘UTVi'

UTV Software Communications, one of leading television and movie content firm, has informed that the company has tied up with Disney-ABC International Television (Asia-Pacific), a unit of US media giant Walt Disney Co., to source news programming for its upcoming business news channel in India.

UTVi, the proposed English-language business news channel, will deliver content through television, web and mobile. The news channel is scheduled to be launched in April end.
