‘Eagle Eye’: out of place B-material

‘Eagle Eye’: out of place B-materialD J Caruso's flick 'Eagle Eye', which comes from the mind of the mighty Steven Spielberg, is an unrealistic but entertaining mystery-action-thriller. Though the film has a political agenda - which theoretically might seem timely with the presidential election - still, the undeveloped Patriot Act and the war on terror appears to be out of place.

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is an aimless fellow going through tough times financially. One day, his mother calls him up to inform him of his twin brother Ethan's untimely death.

At his brother's funeral, Jerry's father gives him a cheque worth $1000. When Jerry deposits the cheque and to withdraw money, he finds his account contains $750,000; and he takes it all.

On his return to his apartment, Jerry finds his apartment is filled with material used to make explosives. His phone rings, and a female voice informs him to get away before the FBI, who are on their way, find him.

Jerry does not heed her advice and gets arrested by Agent Thomas Morgan (Billy Bob Thornton) and Air Force Office of Special Investigations Special Agent Zoe Perez (Rosario Dawson).

The female voice helps Jerry escape the FBI's clutches, and teams him up with Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), a single mother who helps Jerry as the female voice is holding her son's life ransom. The female voice instructs them all through the film, helping them avoid and outsmart the police, and demonstrating absolute control over networking devices of all kinds!

'Eagle Eye' can best be termed as a time pass, and even LaBeouf and Monaghan - ordinarily likable and versatile - cannot elevate this B-material.
