New York - Academy Award winner actress and activist Charlize Theron was named UN Messenger of Peace to lead the campaign to end violence against women, the UN said Friday.

Theron founded The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project in partnership with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to help improve the lives of poor children and their families in her native South Africa, particularly those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Bayreuth, Germany  - Katharina Wagner, 30, co-director of the Wagner Opera Festival in Germany, survived uninjured after the driver of her car died at high speed, aides said Friday.

Stefan Mueller, the festival lawyer, died of a heart attack as he and Wagner were on the autobahn home from Berlin just before midnight Thursday. From the front passenger seat, she steered the car to the roadside and stopped it.

Festival spokesman Peter Emmerich said she was unhurt. After stopping, she vainly tried to resuscitate Mueller and called an ambulance and highway police near the Bavarian town of Hof.

She and her half-sister, Eva Wagner-Pasquier, 63, became directors of the festival in September, taking over from their father, Wolfgang Wagner, 89.

Washington, Nov 14 : Rihanna has cancelled a show in Indonesia over security concerns – just a day before she was set to take the stage.

The ‘Umbrella’ singer was scheduled to perform in front of a sold-out crowd in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Nov 14, but cancelled the gig amid concerns about her safety.

The Bajan beauty’s decision to axe the gig came in line with Aussie government’s travel advisory issued on Nov 10, which warned its citizens to avoid Indonesia.
