Gordon Brown to address Israeli parliament

Jerusalem - Gordon Brown to address Israeli parliamentBritish Prime Minister Gordon Brown was set to address the Israeli parliament early Monday afternoon, before wrapping up a two-day visit to Israel and the West Bank. 

Brown will be the first British prime minister to speak before the Knesset. The address marks 60 years since Israel was founded. 

Meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem Sunday, Brown called for an end to Israeli settlements, pledged additional financial assistance and support for Abbas' West Bank administration, and said Jerusalem should be the capital of both Israel and the future Palestinian state. 

Brown's visit to the region is his first since he took office a year ago. (dpa)
