Govt to take PPP route for colleges, polytechnics

The state government will establish 14 new engineering colleges and nine polytechnics in public private partnership (PPP) mode. This will provide opportunity to students to get technical education by paying reasonable fees as compared to high fees of self-financed colleges.

Education minister Ramanla Vora said, “The government will be inviting proposals from private institutions and companies for this. The government will give land for establishing an institution at a token rate of Re1 for 30 years. It will give 50% or maximum Rs10 crore as a contribution to the capital expenditure for engineering colleges, while Rs5 crore or 50% for polytechnics. The institutes will have to bear the recurring expenses and will have to fix a rational fee structure that the middle class can afford.”

The government has already fixed land for 14 degree colleges and five polytechnics so as to speed up the process of establishment of the institutions.
