Huub Stevens quits as PSV Eindhoven coach

Huub StevensAmsterdam - Huub Stevens has resigned as PSV Eindhoven after less than a season, the Dutch club said on Wednesday.

PSV said in a statement that the relationship between Stevens and the players never "clicked" despite many efforts.

"To their regret, PSV and Huub Stevens had to realize that the relationship and the trust between the coach and the squad wasn't good enough to perform in the best way," said the statement.

PSV are yet to name a successor.

Stevens, 55, quit German side SV Hamburg last year to return to his native Netherlands to be close to his ill wife at their home near Eindhoven.

He signed a two-year deal at PSV but the club trails leaders AZ Alkmaar by 15 points with no realistic chance of capturing a 22nd Dutch title. PSV were also dumped in the European Champions League. (dpa)
