Ivanovic to take on Koryttseva in first game
Beijing - With eight of the World's top ten competing in the women's tennis tournament in Beijing, the competition seems to be as tough as it gets.
Top seeded world number one Ana Ivanovic, who will lose her number one ranking to Jelena Jankovic next week, should overcome Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva in the first round.
Her Serbian compatriot Jankovic, who is the second seed, faces a potentially more difficult clash against doubles specialist Cara Black. The Zimbabwean is ranked number one in doubles at the moment, but could give Jankovic some trouble in the singles.
The American Williams sisters Venus (7) and Serena Williams (4) face Timea Bacsinszky and Olga Govortsova respectively in the first round. As they have been drawn into different halves of the draw, an all-Williams final could be on the cards.
They already won gold in the doubles in 2000, the same year Venus also walked away with the singles title.
They are, however, not the only sisters going for the same gold medal, as the draw also features the Bondarenko sisters Kateryna and Alona from the Ukraine.
The unseeded players have been drawn against Russian Elena Dementieva (5) and Milagros Sequera from Venezuela respectively.
The women's tournament at the August 8-24 Games begins on August 10 and ends August 17, with the doubles final. The singles final will be played a day earlier. (dpa)
