Jazz miss a beat as Hawks snap their 12-game run

Los Angeles  - The Atlanta Hawks - the NBA's latest streak busters - struck again.

Joe Johnson scored 31 points with nine assists, Josh Smith had 22 points with 12 rebounds and the Hawks snapped the season-high 12-game winning streak of the Utah Jazz Wednesday night with a 100-93 home-court victory.

"This shows everybody in the world the Hawks are for real," Smith said. "They have to take the Hawks seriously. Utah is an outstanding team, and we were able to beat them."

Atlanta ended Cleveland's 11-game run on December 13, stopped Detroit's modest four-game string Saturday and severed New Orleans' seven-game success two days ago before halting Utah's fourth-longest streak in franchise history.

"Utah is one of the best teams in the league," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "They're deep, they play hard every night and they don't have a lot of flaws. We had to play an A game tonight to beat this team."

Flip Murray added 11 of his 16 points in the final quarter, and Al Horford had 13 with 12 rebounds for Atlanta (37-28), which remain fourth in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Deron Williams had 20 points with nine assists, and Paul Millshap scored 16 with nine rebounds for Utah (41-24), which stayed atop the Northwest Division despite suffering their first loss since February 8 against Golden State.

"We worked hard to get where we're at," Williams said. "We're healthy, and we feel we're in a good spot right now. We had 12-straight wins, and we can't let one loss set us back."

After Mehmet Okur's 19-foot jumper put Utah ahead 89-87 at the 5:01 mark, the Jazz missed their final 11 shots and were outscored 13-4 the rest of the way.(dpa)
