Left parties meet today

New Delhi, July 8: The four Left parties will meet here today to discuss a political alternative to counter the recent forward developments on the US-India civil nuclear cooperation.

The four Left parties are CPI, CPI (M), Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party of India (RSP).

They are expected to take a collective view on the reply of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in response to their queries on whether the government is proceeding to seek a safeguards agreement from the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

On Monday, Mukherjee had proposed that the UPA-Left coordination panel meet on Thursday.

Forward Bloc General Secretary Debabrata Biswas has already said that the Left Parties would submit a letter of withdrawing support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government to President Pratibha Patil by July 10.

Biswas said the decision to withdraw support to the UPA Government is a unanimous one.

The Left response comes in the wake of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh''s statement that the Government will go to the IAEA soon. (ANI)
