Lindell-Vikarby out for season after crash, Riesch to continue
Val d'Isere, France - Jessica Lindell-Vikarby of Sweden tore the cruciate ligament in her right knee during training for the world championship downhill ski race and is out for the season.
Germany's Maria Riesch also crashed and injured herself, but was set to compete in the next training run set for later Thursday.
Swedish team officials made the announcement on Lindell-Vikarby late Wednesday after medical examinations. She lost control in her practice run and crashed into the safety nets.
Lindell-Vikarby, 24, won her first World Cup race less than a fortnight ago in a super-g in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, and came third last weekend in a super-g in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
She placed 12th in the world championship super-g on Tuesday and was due to compete in further events in Val d'Isere.
Riesch, the top favourite for slalom gold at the worlds suffered bruises on her back and face and injuring her knee.
But Riesch was due to return to the piste later Thursday for another downhill training run. (dpa)
