Man stabs to death five police officers in Shanghai

Beijing - Five police officers died and several others were
seriously injured after man armed with a knife attacked them at a
police station in Shanghai on Tuesday, state media said.

Officers eventually overpowered the man but his frenzied attack
left nine officers and one security guard with serious wounds to their
chests, abdomens and faces, the Shanghai Daily and other state media
reported.

"Some of them had stab wounds in the chest," the newspaper quoted a
witness of saying of the injured officers on local television.

"Blood was all over some of their faces," the witness said.

The Shanghai Public Security Bureau said the unidentified man
forced his way into its Zhabei district station and began attacking
people just after 9 am

The newspaper said four officers died of their injuries in local
hospitals, while the official Xinhua news agency said five of the
victims had died.

Some reports said the attacker was from outside Shanghai, but his identity and motive remained unknown. (dpa)
