Murray 'amicably' splits with coach Lendl after two year-'partnership'

Andy MurrayJohannesburg, Mar 20 - Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has reportedly parted ways with his coach Ivan Lendl after a two-year partnership under a 'mutual agreement'.

The British No. 1 was already one of the most talented players of his generation but it was only when working with Lendl that he became a major winner, winning the 2012 US Open and last year's Wimbledon title, along with an Olympic gold medal in 2012.

According to Sport24, in a joint statement on Murray's website, Czech-born Lendl, who appeared to be the instigator of the split, said that it has been a 'fantastic experience' for him while working with the Scot, whom he hailed as 'first-class'.

However, Lendl said that he now feels as he has helped Murray achieve his goal of winning titles, it is time for him to concentrate on some of his own projects moving forward including playing more events around the world which he is 'really enjoying'.

Expressing his gratitude to Lendl for his hard work over the past two years, Murray said that the period with Lendl was the most successful of his career so far, adding that he will take some time with the team to consider the next steps and how to progress form here.

Although the form of Murray, who continues his return from back surgery and is preparing to defend his Miami title, has dipped since his Wimbledon victory, it is mostly blamed on his back injury and subsequent surgery, the report added. (ANI)
