Nepal parties approve Koirala attending SAARC Summit

cpm(uml)Kathmandu, July 30 : The CPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML today agreed on the 35-member Nepali delegation team led by caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to attend the 15th South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit on August 2.

During the meeting of top leaders of the four parties including the Nepali Congress (NC), the UML, the Maoists and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), it was agreed to let Prime Minister Koirala to head the 35-member strong Nepali delegation.

The UML, Maoist and MPRF leaders agreed to allow Koirala head the summit after he accepted his mistake in not consulting with the parties on foreign policy affairs.

Earlier, the Maoist and the UML were reiterating that being the caretaker Prime Minister, Koirala should not be allowed to attend the SAARC, instead President Dr Ram Baran Yadav must be substituted in his place.

They had even threatened to move the Constituent Assembly (CA) if Koirala went ahead with his plan to travel to Colombo.

The uncertainty of Nepal''s participation had thrown the Summit itself into uncertainty since as per the SAARC charter, the Summit cannot take place if even one of the member states cannot attend.

Koirala will now leave for Colombo on Thursday, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
