Taare Zameen Par out of Oscar Race
Even as Indians celebrate the success of A. R. Rahman at the Golden Globe Award, "Taare Zameen Par", a much acclaimed film of 2007, made a quiet exit from the Oscar race.
The Aamir Khan directed film failed to make it to the list of the nine films short listed in the foreign language film category. Few movies that succeeded in making to the final list in the past are: Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan.
A panel of judges selected 9 films out of 65 which will be further reduced to five nominees by a special committee in New York and Los Angeles. French Cannes winner The Class and Golden globe winner Waltz with Bashir from Israel persists in the race, having been shortlisted.
Many had pinned their hopes to "Taare Zameen Par" to fetch India that much elusive Oscar award. The film was about a Dyslexic child, played brilliantly by debutant child actor Darsheel Safary. The story was written by Amol Gupte and directed by the perfectionist Aamir Khan.
