Colors To Beef Up Weekends With Dancing Queen, Chhote Miyan

Colors To Beef Up Weekends With Dancing Queen, Chhote MiyanThe general entertainment channels (GECs) had been hit badly because of the TV workers’ strike.

At that time, viewers were left with no option, and they had to watch the repeat telecasts of their favorite programmes.

With this, channels saw an average fall by 35-55 percent in prime time viewership.

After the conflict between the producers and the workers finally called off, the ratings increased gradually, and this time the starting of new shows put up a lot to the ‘TRPs’ than new episodes of subsisting shows for major GECs.

Colors, the Hindi general entertainment channel from the Viacom18 basket, has four new shows in its programming basket including two fiction shows and two reality shows.

Colors launched two fiction shows ‘Uttaran’ and ‘Jaane Kya Baat Hui’ on December 1.

To add more ‘colour’ over the weekends, the channel is ready to launch two reality shows - Dancing Queen and Chhote Miyan- on 12 and 13 December respectively.

Mr. Rajesh Kamat, CEO, Colors, stated, “In our attempt to match up to the proposition of Jasbaat Ke Rang we have added new hues of emotions, engaging the viewers with new and fresh episodes. For the first time we have introduced two fiction shows in the time band of 10:00- 11:00 pm and strengthening our weekend programming with Dancing Queen & Chhote Miyan.”

While lecturing on the marketing campaign roll-out, Mr. Rajesh added, “Colors new show launches will be aggressively supported by 360 degree marketing. Starting December first week, Colors will be omnipresent across multiple platforms.”

Recently, Colors also announced its acquisition of Bollywood films such as Jodha Akbar, Life in A Metro, Race, Fashion, Singh is King, Kismet Konnection, Mumbai Meri Jaan, A Wednesday, Welcome to Sajjanpur and Aap Ka Suroor.

Moving further, Star Plus, which ended its popular daily soaps Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, has launched ‘Aap Ki Kachehri’ on Dec 1. Aap Ki Kachehri a reality show in which super cop Kiran Bedi helps to settle social and moral disputes, was launched on the day fresh content returned on the GECs, replacing KSBKBT.

Zee TV made announcement of a new show, Chhoti Bahu, in its 7.30 pm slot on weekdays. This, too, was planned to be launched earlier, but was postponed until the strike was called off.

NDTV Imagine will launch ‘Oye It's Friday’ this week, the show has director-actor Farhan Akhtar as its host.

Despite the TV workers’ strike, the GECs have also suffered because of the updates of Mumbai terror attacks on news channels.

An analysis, which was conducted between November 26 and December 3, disclosed that the top GECs were almost at the same level. The graph showed that Colors was number one at 16.3%, Star Plus stood at 11.5% and Zee TV at 10.3%, whereas Sony had just 6.7% channel share.
