NTPC to set coal-fired power plant in GujaratNTPC declared as recent as today that it plans to establish a 1,320 Mw coal-based thermal power plant in the state of Gujarat. The Gujarat government has approved of this project and allowed its setting up on the excess land in Dhuvaran in Gujarat. This will be side by side the already existent plant there under the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL),

The thermal power project in question is slated to have a pair of units of 660 Mw each, and having the Super Critical Technology, which makes use of domestic coal mixed with imported coal. The company is looking forward to increasing its present power generation capacity from 30,000 Mw to 50,000 Mw by the year of 2012.

There was a meeting between the Union Minister of State for Power, Bharat Singh Solanki and the Gujarat State officials in New Delhi on Thursday. These officials were led by Gujarat’s energy minister Saurabh Patel. The purpose of the meeting was to review the necessary aspects of the project.

Also present in the meeting was Managing Director and Chairman of the NTPC, R S Sharma to discuss the feasibility of the project. This meeting’s report may perhaps be finalized by March, 2011.
