Pakistan's prime minister to meet with Bush in US

Yousaf Raza GillaniWashington - US President George W Bush plans to meet Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on July 28, when the two leaders are expected to discuss the fight against terrorism, economic development and regional cooperation, the White House said Thursday.

"The US-Pakistan strategic partnership is grounded firmly in the shared objectives of promoting democracy and combating extremism," the White House spokesperson said in a statement.

Gilani took office in March after tumultous elections that saw the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who had returned from exile to run for office. (dpa)
