Rahman’s 'Jai Ho' Did Not Deserve An Oscar, Says Jagjit Singh

Jagjit SinghAce Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh said how A R Rahman's song in Slumdog Millionaire 'Jai Ho' won two Oscars as he finds the song overrated.

Singh gave his judgment during the launch of his new album ‘Inteha’.

The 68-year-old legend said that he is very happy that the country has won the Oscars, but at the same time he couldn’t understand on what basis the song was selected for the Oscars.

“Getting an Oscar is no doubt a great achievement but the song, for which we got the award, is not so special. Frankly I did not understand on what basis it was awarded,” he said.

Come July, the Oscar winning Indian music maestro would be awarded with an honorary doctorate by the London based Middlesex University, the latest in the many honors conferred on him in his long career.

Earlier AMU (Aligarh) and the Anna University (Chennai) too had awarded an honorary D Lit to the 43 year old music maestro.

Apart from Rahman, over 50 well-known musicians will be participating in this show being organized by the NGO Global Kerala Initiative.

In the video 'Beautiful', Rahman is seen for just a couple of seconds. The Mozart of Madras is seen posing with a group of models and smiling in his usual coy way.
