Brussels cops foil bomb plot against UK PM BrownBrussels, Dec. 12 : Police in Brussels have reportedly foiled a suicide bomb attack on British Prime Minister Gordon Brown by arresting fourteen suspected al-Qaeda terrorists here on Thursday.

According to The Sun, the sweep came just hours before a summit meeting between the heads of 27 EU countries in Brussels.

Brown was due to meet EU leaders.

One of the suspects is believed to be a suicide bomber mounting an operation "from which he was not expected to come back".

According to The Sun, he then meant to say: “We not only saved the banks...” but instead blurted out: “We not only saved the world...”

Brown said he had spoken to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who told him in a phone call that a meeting could be held as early as next Monday to discuss the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe.

"My conversation with Ban Ki-moon last night led us to believe that we can have a meeting of the Security Council next week on Monday to discuss what further measures the international community can take," Brown said in a speech marking...

London  - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown held a meeting on further measures to stimulate the sluggish world economy with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in London Monday.

The so-called European Union (EU) "mini summit" followed criticism in London and Paris of the Germany's reluctance to follow up a recent massive economic bail-out package with tax-cutting measures.

But speaking before the meeting, which was to be joined by major British business leaders, Brown dismissed media reports that he had "snubbed" German Chancellor Angela Merkel by not including her in the talks.

London, December 7 : Gordon Brown has confessed that he was thrashed with a belt by his headmaster while at school for planning to sneak off to watch a football match.

On being questioned if he had been caned for breaking rules, the Brit PM, admitted having been beaten by the belt– a popular alternative to the cane during his times, reports the Telegraph.

Sir Alan Sugar asked Brown in an interview: "When you were at school, did you ever get the cane?" Brown replied: "The belt, yes."

Sir Alan then asked: "The belt? You got the belt?" to which Brown added: "The belts were actually manufactured in my constituency."
