Government May Announce Second Stimulus Package Soon The union government may announce a second financial package to boost the economic growth rate amid global slowdown. It was revealed by the Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamal Nath at the sidelines of a function, organized by the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade.

Addressing a news conference here Nath said, "The package which will be announced will generate further demands. Our growth is domestic demand driven. We will have to ensure that our domestic demand continues and government will be taking all the steps including greater investment to ensure that demand in the domestic economy continues in a healthy manner."

While addressing the Luncheon Session on “India and Belgium Partners in a Globalised World” with His Majesty Albert II, King of the Belgians, here, the Minister said that the bilateral trade between the two countries during 2007-08 was US 8.6 dollars billion representing a growth of 13 per cent over the 2006-07 trade which stood at US 7.6 billion dollars.

Addressing a press conference on the outcome of the recently concluded World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference at Geneva today, Nath said, “While India was prepared to be constructive and reasonable, it could simply not accept any solution that would pose a serious threat to the livelihoods of its subsistence farmers.”

Nath stated that flexibilities for developing countries have to be adequate and appropriate for addressing the sensitivities of individual members. There can be no caveats such as number and trade volume limitations as proposed by the US to the usage of these flexibilities.

Political consensus will be reached over Indo-US deal, says Kamal Nath

Washington, June 13 : Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, who is on US visit, expressed hope that at some point of time a political consensus would be reached over the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.

"We are trying to arrive at a broad political consensus and that is what we have done," Nath said while participating in a talk show on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary celebrations of the United States India Business Council (USIBC).

Kamal Nath further said that it is not only an energy issue, but also a great tribute to India's outstanding record in management of nuclear capability.
