Oslo - Norwegian police said Wednesday they have recovered a painting by German master Lucas Carnach, the elder, stolen over the weekend.

The announcement was made hours after police said they had arrested a man on suspicion of involvement in the theft.

Initial inspection suggested the actual painting was not damaged even though there was some damage to the frame, police spokesman Magne Pedersen told public broadcaster NRK.

Berlin  - Friends described the German teenager who killed 15 people in a school shooting spree Wednesday as a quite boy with a liking for guns.

"We often practised with air pistols and airsoft (compressed air) guns in his father's cellar," a youth who identified himself as Dustin told n-tv television. "He always hit the bulls-eye."

Tim K, who killed himself after being cornered by police 40 kilometres from the shooting in the south-west town of Winnenden, grew up in a wealthy family.

Oslo  - A man suspected of war crimes in Kosovo was ordered detained in custody for a month by an Oslo court on Wednesday, the day after he was arrested in central Norway.

The 39-year old man will initially to be held for four weeks, the Norwegian news agency NTB reported.

His defence lawyer said the man, who was not named, denied allegations that he took part in various crimes and set fire to homes in March 1999, as civilian Kosovan Albanians were expelled from their homes and in some cases forced to flee to Albania.

Mexico City  - Nine people died early Wednesday in two clashes between security forces and alleged kidnappers in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, the authorities confirmed.

One clash happened in the city of Celaya, while the other took place in the nearby Valle de Santiago. Police had initially said 10 people were killed.

Oslo - Norwegian police have made an arrest in connection with the weekend theft of a painting by German master Lucas Carnach, the elder, news reports said Wednesday.

According to some estimates the painting was worth at least 15 million kroner (2.1 million dollars).

A Norwegian insurance company Tuesday posted a reward worth 500,000 kroner for information securing the safe return of the painting.
