Search to be carried out for long-missing Norwegian explorer's plane Oslo  - Norwegian defence forces said Monday they would take part in a search for the plane of famed Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen who went missing in
1928.

Amundsen (1872-1928) became a national hero in Norway after leading an expedition to the geographic South Pole in 1911, beating Britain's Robert F Scott in an epic race.

The Norwegian joined in a search for Italian airship Italia piloted and designed by Umberto Nobile that was reported missing in May 1928 after flying over the North Pole.

Pakistani forces kill 10 militants in Khyber tribal area

Islamabad  - Pakistani security officials claimed on Monday to have killed 10 militants in the country's restless tribal district along the Afghan border.

Helicopter gunships and artillery shells targeted a militants' location in the Khyber area, which serves as a vital route for supplies for NATO troops deployed in landlocked Afghanistan, said an official from Frontier Corps, the paramilitary troops fighting the Taliban.

"Our forces destroyed their communication system, 15 vehicles and killed 10 of their men," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

ROUNDUP: 12 die when train, bus collide in SlovakiaBratislava - Twelve people were killed Saturday when a local passenger train crashed into a tourist bus in central Slovakia, police said.

The police updated its earlier reports that put the accident's toll at 13 victims after the bus wreck was removed from the tracks, police spokeswoman Maria Faltaniova said.

"The investigator on the spot confirmed that 12 victims were found (at the scene)," Faltaniova told Deusche Presse-Agentur dpa.
