PM to address public meeting in Dibrugarh todayDibrugarh (Guwahati), Apr 7 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address a public meeting in Dibrugarh, about 400 km from Guwahati, today.

According to sources, Dr. Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will also address a public meeting in Dispur.

The visit is being held a day after at least seven people were killed and 61 others injured in two bomb blasts triggered by suspected ULFA militants in Maligaon area in Guwahati and Dhekiajuli near Tezpur.

The incident occurred soon after a bomb blast had claimed six lives in Guwahati's Maligaon area.

The blasts came a day before the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh's, visit to Assam.

According to police, the rebel United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is under suspicion for the incidents.

These blasts took place ahead of the ULFA's 30th `Flag Raising Day'.

An Assam Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman informed that Singh will arrive in the town at 11.30 a. m. to campaign for the party candidate, former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar.

The constituency is going to polls in the second phase of election on April 23.

Tea garden workers told not to vote for CongressGuwahati, Apr 4 : The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) has appealed to tea garden workers not to vote for the Congress party in the general elections.

"We have appealed our people to boycott the Congress party," ATTSA President Prahlad Goala said on Friday.

The association said that Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Government in the State had been negligent towards their problems.

President to attend diamond jubilee function of Guwahati High Court today

President Pratibha PatilGuwahati, Apr 4: President Patil will attend the closing session of the diamond jubilee of the Guwahati High Court today.

The President arrived here on Friday evening after completing her three-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh. After her arrival, she exchanged views with a selected group of school children, teachers and parents at the Raj Bhavan.

The Guwahati High Court was established on March 1, 1948 after the Government of India Act, 1935 was passed.
