Mango Production Soars In HaryanaMango farming is gaining ground in Haryana with its production and area under cultivation going up by around three times in two decades.

Financial Commissioner Roshan Lal stated that the production of mango climbed from 19,900 tonnes in 1990-91 to 64,570 tonnes in the year 2009.

Mr. Roshan Lal attributed the groth to the use of newest technology by agriculturists.

The area under mango production also went up to 9,125 hectares from 3,553 hectares previously.

An extra 250 hectares would be brought under mango plantation during the existing financial year (2010-11).

The centre's project director, G. P. Srivastav, and other DAE representatives visited the site Friday to examine it.

Mr. Srivastav stated that four educational institutions will open in the centre to examine nuclear security, radiological conservation, use of radio-stopes and radiation techniques and nuclear energy facility.

DPDA president Atul Peshawaria stated, "If the government does not reduce the VAT and bring it to parity with that of Haryana, we will be left with no other option but to close down our petrol pumps and observe a strike."

The increase in value added tax has seen 35 to 95% drop in the sale of diesel since 2008.

CBI Judge grants interim bail to Abhay Chautala in graft case

'Step-mom' generates new controversy in Ruchika case

Panchkula (Haryana), Jan 11 - A new controversy has emerged in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case involving former Haryana police chief S. P. S. Rathore, with a 'mystery' woman, Veena, claiming that she was married to Ruchika's father, S. C. Girhotra. The claim has been dismissed by the lawyer and friends of the Girhotra family.

Veena has told the special investigation team (SIT) of the Haryana police that she was married to Ruchika's father, S. C. Girhotra, between November 1990 and 1995.

Thick fog engulfs Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 10 - Fog along with bone-chilling cold Sunday derailed normal life in Punjab, Haryana and the joint capital Chandigarh and hit road, rail and air traffic.

A blanket of thick fog enveloped Chandigarh and most parts of Punjab and Haryana. "Dense fog prevails in the region, reducing the visibility level to below 100 meters. We are expecting these conditions to continue in the coming days," said a Met official here.

The Chandigarh Police have issued a traffic advisory for the residents to follow while driving. "People should drive slow during foggy weather and avoid overtaking as far as possible. Fog lights should be switched on and nobody should use high beam while driving," the advisory stated.

Rathore's anticipatory bail plea on two fresh first information reports (FIRS), which were registered Dec 29.

The argument in the court went on for over two hours.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chandigarh had Dec 21 held Rathore guilty of molesting 15-year-old Ruchika Gehrotra and sentenced him to a six-month prison term. Rathore was, however, immediately granted bail.
