Banaskantha (Gujarat), Apr 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Congress was not interested in development of the country.

“The Congress is not interested in development issues. They just want to remain in power for which they indulge in vote bank politics,” Modi said while addressing an election rally here.

Modi further said that he has a magic medicine to solve all problems of the people of the State.

New Delhi, Apr 20: Election Commissioner Navin Chawla took over as the Chief Election Commissioner on Monday.

Navin Chawla, who succeeded N. Gopalaswami, will hold charge till July 29, 2010. He took over in the presence of Gopalaswami and the third Election Commissioner, S. Y. Quraishi.

On the occasion, Gopalaswami wished the best of tenure to Chawla.

“Today, I take leave from all of you. I wish Mr. Chawla the best of tenure and a successful completion of the election,” Gopalaswami told mediapersons here.

Mumbai, Apr 20: Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone survivour attacker of Mumbai terror attacks, and his associate Ismail Khan were also planning to attack the Raj Bhavan but could not succeed as they were overpowered by police at Chowpatty area of Mumbai.

Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam on Monday said that a map showing locations such as Chowpatty, Malabar Hill and Raj Bhavan was recovered from Ismail’s pocket.

Mumbai, Apr 20: Senior Congress leader and Maharashtra’s Industries Minister Narayan Rane on Monday blamed the Shiv Sena for kidnapping his cousin brother Ankush Rane, who was found dead on Sunday near Kankavli town in Sindhudurg District.

Ankush was missing from his residence in a village in Sidhudurg District since April 17.

The body was confirmed to be that of Ankush after his family identified it.

Rane alleged that Shiv Sena MPs Sanjay Raut and Vaibhav Naik were behind his cousin’s abduction.
