Management programme at IIM-A to get expensive from 2010-11

Institute Director Samir BauraAhmedabad, Mar 29 : India''s premier management institute, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) plans a hike in fees for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) by Rs 50,000 from 2010-11.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of IIM-A Board of Governors headed by Vijaypath Singhania in Ahmedabad on Sunday, institute Director Samir Baura said, "Last year we had decided that the fee for PGPM for 2008-09 would be Rs 5.5 lakh and for 2009-10 it would be Rs 6 lakh. The board today decided that the fee for year 2009-10 for the incoming batch will remain the same."

India cruise missile BrahMos test-fired successfully

BrahMos New Delhi - India on Sunday successfully test-fired the land version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and said it was ready for induction in the army.

This was the third test-firing of the missile, developed under an Indo-Russian joint venture, since January.

"Today land attack version of BrahMos Block-II was tested from a mobile autonomous launcher at Pokhran test range by the Indian Army. The missile took off successfully and hit the desired target at bull's eye, meeting all mission parameters," the army's military's research wing said in a statement.

SC to hear Sanjay Dutt’s plea on Monday

SC to hear Sanjay Dutt’s plea on MondayNew Delhi, Mar 29 : The Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by Bollywood actor-turned politician Sanjay Dutt for suspension of his conviction under the Arms Act in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case on Monday.

Dutt's fate will depend upon the stand taken by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Dutt is the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate for the Lucknow parliamentary constituency. He can only contest the upcoming general elections if he gets a stay on his conviction.

RJD, LJP, SP to formally announce new alliance on April 3

Samajwadi PartyNew Delhi, Mar 29 : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) will make a formal announcement of their new alliance on April 3, Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh said.

Talking to the reporters here today, Singh said, "They (RJD, LJP, SP) will sit together in Lucknow on April 3 at 11 am to discuss and announce the secular alliance."

The three parties on March 26 had separately announced plans to contest the coming general elections in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar unitedly.

EC issues notice to Mulayam Singh

Mulyam SinghNew Delhi, Mar 29 : The Election Commission has issued notice to the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, for allegedly misbehaving with a senior officer in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing media persons, the Election Commissioner S. Y. Qureshi said the commission has given special directions to its officials to monitor the media so that suo moto action could be taken against candidates who are creating nuisance.
