Kathmandu, Sept 26: In Nepal, the dispute on whether a party’s whip will be binding on Constituent Assembly (CA) members during the drafting of Constitution has stalled the process of formulating CA rules.

Smaller parties reiterated their position that CA members be allowed to vote their conscience at a meeting of the drafting committee on Thursday, nepalnews. com reported.

However, the bigger parties said that the right to issue whip or not should be left to the parties.

Kathmandu- Thousands of lawyers across Nepal returned to work Wednesday after ending a three-day strike.

Lawyers associated with Nepal Bar Association went on strike Sunday to protest a Supreme Court ban on its president, Bishwo Kant Mainali, from taking part in court proceedings for six months after he accused judges of corruption.

The strike had crippled court hearings across the country.

Representatives of the association and judges of the Supreme Court reached an agreement to lift the ban and end the strike.

Kathmandu- Nepalese authorities on Tuesday intensified their relief and rescue operations in flood-ravaged western Nepal where at least 38 people have died and thousands are homeless.

The Nepalese Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam said the government had released 15.5 million rupees (210,000 dollars) in emergency aid to provide shelter and food for the displaced.

The Nepalese government also said nearly 13,000 people were displaced from their homes after heavy monsoon rains triggered landslides and floods across western Nepal.

Kathmandu, Sept 23: Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda attended a reception hosted by US President George W. Bush and Laura Bush on the ocassion of the sixty-third session of United Nations General Assembly in New York last evening.

Prachanda is leading a Nepali delegation to United Nations General Assembly.

Prachanda, who reached US via Germany also held meeting with Nepalis there. Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) in Germany held an interaction with Prachanda at a luncheon programme held by Nepali Ambassador to Germany Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai on Sunday.

Kathmandu, Sept 23: Nepal President Dr. Rambaran Yadav has urged all groups in Terai involved in violence to renounce their ways and join the process of building a new Nepal.

Addressing a programme organised by Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Janakpur on Monday, Dr. Yadav said, "Forms of violence have been seen in Terai. This will disrupt the dream of building a new Nepal." T
